Biloxi Yes/No

Heading over to New Orleans Sunday. Currently in Pensacola. I have never been to Biloxi. Should I spend a day or two there or head directly to the big easy? Never been there either. I am sure there is a ton of stuff to see and do in New Orleans ... Casinos don't interest me. Boloxi yes/no?

If you don't care about the casinos I'd say no since the storm wiped out most of everything to see there. Was a beautiful coastal area but has not been rebuilt much as of yet.

Well Biloxi has the white sand beaches and Casinos. It could be a nice drive along the beaches to New Orleans. Enjoy the ride and New Orleans.

Central Grocery - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You have to get a Muffuletta at Central grocery and a Beignet at

Have fun!

The drive along US-90 is a very nice drive. Lot's of stop and go. As stated, the "mansions" were wiped out by hurricane and they were not rebuilt. Lots of cemement slabs as reminders. It has been two years since we have been in that area and there might be some newer houses now. The highway is right opposite the beach so that view is very nice. I have not crossed the bridge on US-90 so maybe others that have taken that route can speak up.

As for I-10 into New Orleans, be prepared to do about 25 mph in an RV on the Eastern Egress. I don't think they have fixed the roller coaster ride you will get. I have only been in that way once and the other times I have used the Western I-10 route. Someone may have taken the Pontchartrain route and can speak for it.

Happy trials and enjoy the trip.

We go 1-10 every week in our RV to Nola. The road is fine now. Your stimulus dollars at work.

I'd take the time to visit the area a little - Jefferson Davis's post civil war home is there and worth a visit for sure! It is also interesting to go to one of the on the coast restaurants and see how high the water actually was during Katrina - spent a week along the MS coast winter before last!

Thank you for the update. Nice to know some of our money is being used for some good.

Looks like we'll bypass Biloxi this time and head over to the Big Easy. Hopefully coming back this way in Nov and can do Biloxi then. I saw this post today over at Escapees: This guy is like having your very own travel agent on board. For someone like me who has never been there this is outstanding!

In 1973 (nearly 4 years post Hurricane Camille) I was riding the bus from Lackland AFB to Keesler AFB. The first bumper sticker I noticed near Biloxi was "Clean Biloxi up, kill and airman."

What a buzz kill.

Even then the affects of Camille were still evident. Haven't been back there since. Had a friend who goes down there regularly. He says there are still lingering affects of Katrina (2005). Seems like folks just aren't interested in going back and that has impeded progress.

Going to stay at the Navy base. I think it's about ten miles south on SR23. I have to admit the military has a bunch of five star rv parks all over the U.S. but to use them you have to be active duty or retired military/DOD.
