Binghamton/Syracuse
Hi all. We are looking for a place to stop next week overnight in central/southern New York State around Syracuse or Binghamton. Campgrounds in the area do not open till May 1. We had one campground that is open booked but just found out they won't have water or washrooms available.
Any suggestions?

It looks like you are driving 81. I know it is 2 hours south of Binghamton but we overnight at the KOA Jonestown Pa which is exit 90 on 81. They are open year round and have water at each site. We live a little to the east of where you are driving and some of the local campgrounds have opened up early because of the warm spring. So maybe you should call some of the campgrounds in the area you are looking at because they may have opened.

I live in the Cortland area and don't think you will find anything open in the area had snow on Mon. Looked at the weather for heading home from Fla around the 10th and see one day in the 20s day and single digit at night. Brrrrrr.

Going down into the teens this weekend so I doubt you will find anything with water hook-ups yet.

Put some water in your tank and use that, you really are just looking for a safe place to park with electricity. We know of several campgrounds that ae "open" in the winter but just have electricity. Usually when we are in travel mode we live off our tanks rather than hook things up.

If you put the app RVparky in your phone you will find that you can stay at the Walmart in East Syracuse, use their bathroom and carry bottled water.

Stayed a Belden Hill near Binghamton Tuesday & Wednesday night last week. Joe the owner warned me the water may be off if freezing so fill up fresh water tank. Warmed up Wednesday and he turned water on. Freezing temps up there this weekend so water may be off. Nice level, gravel sites. Stayed at Jonestown Thursday night no water issues but it was well above freezing. Sites at Jonestown were not as level and a bit tighter. I was in a 38' MH pulling a toad w/a dolly. Both owners very nice. Good luck & safe travels!

Actually had Beldon Hill reserved for the night. But because we have not yet dewinterized we will not have running water that night. Our coach is not equipped with a bay heater. We also just found out that his restrooms will not be available.....so looks like a first time Walmart stay????
Little leary and nervous about that!

Got over 8 inches of Lake Effect snow last night (just west of Syracuse) and the roads are terrible. No plows out. They probably thought winter was over. Wind is still pretty bad with lots of blowing snow. 25 degrees right now (8:00 AM)
Update 9 AM - High winds, visibility almost zero. Temperature dropping...
Stay away from Syracuse/Lake Ontario.

We also use our fresh water tank when in travel mode and only hook up to electricity. Should be no problem for an overnight. If the temps are below freezing, you would need to use your fresh water tank anyway.

I would make sure you have your propane tank filled for heating along with fresh water and then you can stay in a Walmart overnight. There is one in Cortland (not near I-81, though... it is across town) and others in the Binghamton (Johnson City) and Syracuse areas. An overnight stay shouldn't be too bad.
