Black Hills SD Help

We are planning a trip in June to the Black Hills area of SD. Have been looking at the Rafter J Ranch campground Rafter J Bar Ranch, south of Hill City. The question I have. Are there any dangers to look out for on HWY 16 and 385 out of Rapid City south to 10 miles south of Hill City. where the campground is located. As you can see, I have a 36' Georgetown and will have my toad. I am particularly concerned on tunnels or other low areas.

We went there with a 45 footer towing, 16 to 385. All clear and great choice on campgrounds. We stay a Rafter J whenever we can and just love the Black Hills. Enjoy

Make sure you call them before you get there. You never know when there may be construction or some other oddity. We are going that way and staying at the Spokane Creek Resort campground and they sent us directions because GPS will take you on roads that may be impassible for large RVs.

One other tip. If you are coming in on I90. There is a Flying J gas station at exit 61. Exit at 61 turn right up the access road and come in at the back left side of the station. It is easy in and out with a toad.

Our trip was fantastic. Spokane Creek is a wonderful place. Plenty for the family to do. A very large grass area to just run and play, basketball court, mini golf (which is pretty challenging really), pool and playground. It is a really peaceful place as well. The people are the best. There is a couple living there for the summer to work at the campground and our kids had a blast playing with their two children everyday. I recommend buying one of their mugs. Then you get free coffee and fountain pop refills for the year. I still use mine everyday. My son and I really enjoyed sneaking up to deer in the park in the evening to see how close we could get. He is 5 and can't wait till he is old enough to hunt with me. Make sure you follow the driving directions they sent you or be sure to get them from their website. DO NOT follow your GPS! They are only a few miles out of Keystone and the steakhouse in town has a buffalo ribeye that may be the finest steak I have ever had, and I was a chef for many years. There is a small store in town where you can get essentials but the closest grocery store is either Rapid City or Hill City. We opted for Hill City because we love the small towns. Everything in the hills area is a short drive away and our small children enjoyed counting the wildlife we saw on our drives. In one day we took the train and we counted about 130 deer alone that day.

The best advice I can give is to take your time and don't be in a hurry. You might miss something. Leave some time each day in your schedule for the things you find along the way.
