When we were in key west we went to the publix (about 14 miles from Blue Wayer Key resort. On the way down there are lots of stores in Marathon you could stop at

The Keys aren't the boondocks like they used to be (fortunately, or unfortunately, you decide!) There are Publix in all the major Keys, a Winn Dixie, a couple of Home Depot's, a West Marine in Marathon and one in Key West. If you are retired military, there is a small Commissary & BX on Sigsbee in Key West. Gas & Diesel are about the same price as the rest of southern Florida . . . .Real Estate taxes and Insurance are thru the roof though, so if you plan on moving down there permanently, I would seriously recommend you consider 1) vacation there during July August, then you will understand why people who live there go NORTH for the Summer! 2) Consider buying a permanent campsite. 3) Consider buying a boat and mooring in the Keys. Sorry, I got a little away from grocery shopping in my post!

Depends on where you are staying. There are supermarkets pretty well available down to Big Pine Key. South of there it's small convenient stores until Stock Island/Key West. Publix and Winn Dixie are most common super markets.

We always go the WD on Big Pine for groceries. Much less traffic to deal with plus a great Cuban cafe next door.

Are you guys referring to "Coco's Kitchen in the Winn Dixie shopping center? If so, it was closed in Oct & looked like it was being remodeled. Yelp is reporting it as permanently closed. Too bad, I liked it very much.

That's the one. As you said, they were supposed to be remodeling when we were there last. We also like the Five Brothers down on Ramrod Key. The Big Pine shopping center is pretty cool though.. where else do you go to Wind Dixie and see deer and chickens in the parking lot!
