Well i am excited as we are heading to Bluewater Key in March. I was sent a 12 pg document so you know where to stay in Florida before arriving, etc. Well spend 2 big days driving into Florida and would like to be south of Orlando the night before our reservation. do any of you have favorites? i figure that im going to need to make a reservation fairly soon for that. thanks in advance!

It takes a while to make it out to Bluewater from the Miami area. We stayed overnight at Larry and Penny Thompson Park in Miami in order to get to Bluewater at a reasonable time.

If you are coming south on the Turnpike OR I-95, then consider Jonathan Dickenson State Park in Jupiter, FL. From there, it's a five-hour drive to Bluewater Key via the Turnpike, which ends at U.S. 1 in Florida City. U.S. 1 will take you straight to Bluewater Key.

Just for information, we too stayed at Bluewater a year or so ago and like yourselves needed a convenient overnight before heading down the Keys. We stayed at what was called "The Marina" (RV Park) at Moore Haven on Rt. 27 on the WSW side of Lake Okeechobee. This campground/marina is all paved, and right on the cross Florida waterway. In fact, it was fun watching various boats locking through into and out of the Lake right from our front window. Also washed our rig so we were nice and clean for our Bluewater stay.

I recall my concern at the time was wondering how long was the run from there down to Bluewater (Mile Marker 14 on the Keys) but since "check in" was supposed to be after 2:30 p.m. (if I recall correctly) we figured Moore Haven would be about right, and, sure enough, it was comfortably perfect !!

From Moore Haven (in our 45' MH, towing Honda) we simply followed Rt. 27 South through Belle Glade, down through Weston and picked up Rt. 997 straight down to Homestead, FL where we hopped on Rt. 1 out onto the Keys. This was a VERY comfortable straight through drive. You'll like Bluewater and the easy access to Key West. Have fun.

Hey folks...this is a bit late, but wanted to let you all know that we had a fabulous time at Bluewater! for those who haven't been there, the bar is set awfully high for Rv resorts now. we love state campgrounds, but decided to treat ourselves for a spring getaway! there are apparently 2 different 'groups' who manage rentals of these individually owned sites. we rented our spot from a broker named Rita, and the site managers a re Dennis and Pat. why did I go with them and not the other group? All Incan tell ya is that Pat always answers the phone! 305-744-0999. they were so very nice and helpful, They hosted a lovely cocktail reception one night for their renters, just really seemed to go the extra mile for ya! initially when we called last fall, they didn't have availability but we were put on a wait list and they called when a lot opened up. it was nirvana. I ll see if I can post some pictures. we stayed and Larry and Penny Thompson park the night before, a cute little park, vey clean, in sort of an odd area, but the park itself had some extremely friendly folk. It worked out well I highly recommend Bluewater.

I'm jealous! We go to BWK every year in the spring and it is our all time favorite place to stay. This year we decided to go to the keys in February and could not get a spot at Bluewater. We spent a great week on the water at Sunshine Key. On the way down we usually stay at Miami Everglades RV Resort just north of Homestead in the Redland farming area. Timing to mm 14 from there is just about right including a final stock up stop at the Publix in Marathon.

Ummm....now that i think about it, Hemingway says the best time in the keys is the fall if you can avoid the storms. Maybe a fall trip is a possibility
