Looks like a lovely trip! I enjoy reading your journals. Both of our kids graduated from Northern Cal colleges. DW and I liked the change in atmosphere from our SoCal home. Your blog brings back many happy memories. Thanks.

Thanks for the comment. I'm glad you enjoy the posts. We are blessed to live near such beautiful areas, though we love Southern CA, too. We tend to travel by car to SoCal due to time constraints or where we visit. I see by your signature you will have a new Motorhome soon! Enjoy!

Do you know how large of a rig can fit into the spaces at the dunes? DW and I are penciling out a weekend in the Bodega area. Our Moho is 35'.

There are sites there in both in the upper and lower area that will fit your coach. Unfortunately, I seem to have lost my site map with all my notes. Also try Doran and Porto Bodega isn't bad for a full hookup gravel parking g lot on the water..

No mention of that horrible computerized fog horn that sounds like a forgotten house alarm? My wife and I stayed nearby at another RV park nearby and that thing drove us crazy! The noise penetrated ear plugs and air conditioners. In fact, anything we tried seemed to amplify that 'Doot - Doot' sound! We ended up moving to the Russian River area to get away from it. Even lost a couple of nights' deposit just to get away.

BillinWooodla and HavingAblast, there are plenty of spaces that will fit your rig. The one I was in, however, was pretty tight, even for my 27 footer. I think an RV up to 30 feet might fit. The problem with the space I was in is that it is angled, and there is low clearance from the trees on the long side of the space.

My wife finds it soothing! You must have been on the spit at Doran? It's closer to the fog horn with nothing obstructing it.
Porto is a mile as the crow flies from the mouth of the harbor and the Dunes is just as far and has sand dunes to block some of the sound. I can see how it could bother some folks though. Where did you stay on the Russian River? We just scouted sites at Cassini Ranch which seemed fine but I can imagine that summer weekends might be a bit of a zoo there...

I think we stayed at the Bodega Bay RV park. Part of the issue was that we didn't know what it was. It just started randomly at night (probably when the fog was rolling in...), then every time it went off, you weren't sure if it was finished or not. It reminded me of a smoke alarm with the battery dying! I'm not a fan of random computerized noises anyway, so this was not pleasant to me, and my wife couldn't sleep at all. In fact, she took the dog out at 3 AM to see what the noise was (we found out the next day it was a fog horn). We were also in a hybrid TT at the time, so there were no walls to muffle the sound.

For those that haven't heard it - it wasn't the loud, booming bass that most people think of. That would have been much nicer!

On the Russian River, we stayed at River Bend RV park. We were lucky enough to get a spot on very short notice there even though there was a big music festival going on in Guerneville. The cycling in the area was great and the place was friendly. There were quite a few seasonal (or longer...) campers there, but also a large area for short-term stays. Lots of wineries nearby also. Similar to Cassini (I thought that was the private one?) it gets busy on the weekends.

Liked reading your journal. You were in our back yard and we have been to most of the parks at Bodega Bay. (state, county and private) You are right about the chowder at Spud Point. It's the best! Your pictures of our remarkable Sonoma County coast do it justice, so thanks for that too.

It's definitely different from a traditional fog horn. If you were at Bodega Bay RV park, that's even further from the source and with a wooded area in between so I guess others should at least be aware.

I'll have to check out River Bend next time I'm up that way. The private one you are talking about is Duncan Mills Camping Club.
