I checked into that area a while back and there isn't much up there. I drove up from Marion, NC. I was looking for something that had cooler temperatures during the summer.

Hi lmldura,
Go to
https://www.onthesnow.com/north-caro...i-resorts.html to find NC ski resorts. Then choose a CG close to the skiing you have chosen.

Honey Bear campground 5 minutes outside of Boone off of 105. You probably need to call and talk to them about access if snow on the ground, but then again the ski areas usually make their own. In summertime they are extremely kid friendly as long as they don't chase the duck.

Grandfather campground will be your closest choice for two of the major ski mountains, Sugar and Beech. They both try and open by Thanksgiving, however it is usually mid December or later before all slopes are running. Best to check the weather forecast and the ski areas website before you go.

x2 Grandfather Mtn CG (between Boone /Foscoe) for Sugar, Beech, also for App (which is between Boone/Blowing Rock).
Suppose to get snow making weather week after Thanksgiving from latest forecast. Check forecast week before your plans. Roads to ski areas are kept clean during snow weather. Years ago, when I was skiing, I've seem some Class A & C in slopes parking lots. Easiest ski lot to park the RV for the day is App Ski Mtn (also in walking distance for couple hr break).
