Boston area cg's

This fall (Sept) we are spending a few weeks in Maine and then coming down to Boston in a 35' MH. I have seen lots of reviews on Normandy and Minuteman but the Winter Island Recreation Area in Salem Harbor intrigues me. Has anyone stayed here before? Particularly in the fall. I have read two reviews on RV Reviews site & they camped in the summer (with boats launching etc).

Thanks for your help.

We stayed at Winter Island last fall and really enjoyed it. The area where they place you is essentially a large parking lot, but some of the sites are next to the water, and the morning sunrises were spectacular, also some nice secluded areas to walk to and a nice little beach area. I think there were more camping sites in an "open field" area, but we didn't really explore that area. Considering we were there to tour the area, Salem and Boston, we didn't mind the parking lot conditions. We also didn't have a car, but there are taxi companies and a trolley that goes back and forth into town all day, also biking would be an option ( we walked one evening and it was a bit far). There is a ferry from Salem to Boston, about a 1/2 hr. ride if I remember correctly that had a workable timetable, so it was easy to get back and forth into the city. The park itself also had no sewer hook up, but the city sewer plant was just down the road for dumping, easy to do on your way out. There was however, electric and water hook up.. It was a great area, hope you have a good time!

In 02 we stayed at a state park near Hingam, MA and it was about a 10 min. drive to the ferry which ran into downtown Boston. Worked great for us and the ferry schedule was ample as commuters used it.
