Boston to College Park, MD ???

Good Afternoon All,

We are taking our 12 yr old grandaughter on a tour of Washington DC in August. SHe has never been and I have not been for years and she has been begging us to take her. I made reservations at Cherry Hill CG and one of the selling features is they have public transporation at their gates so we can leave the car home.

Now, we are planning on traveling from our home north of Boston to College Park, MD and would like to know if anyone has any travel tips or best routes? According to Mapquest, it looks like about a 9 hour trip and we are planning on taking 2 days to get down and 2 days to get back. We want to take it slow and stop along the way if we choose to do so.

1. Best Route???

2. Roads to avoid??

3. A good halfway spot to spend the night? (We are not adverse to a night in a SAFE rest area, Wallmarts, or other box store parking lot near the highway...)

4. Any other points of interest along the way??

Thank you in advance for any and all tips...

Faith

We can't give you many travel tips as College Park MD is just about 2 hours away from home. But we can surely vouch for Cherry Hill. It took us about 4 visits (once a year) but we finally caught all of the Washington DC sites. The first trip, we took the city bus from the CG to the Metro. All other trips we took our car - because we didn't like getting off the Metro being tired and then waiting for the next bus to pick us up for the ride to the CG.
The city bus actually takes you to the Metro that is 2 stops away from the CG. If you drive yourself, you are only 1 exit away from the Metro.
With the car, we could then do the newer Air and Space Museum (near Dulles Airport) and sites like Mount Vernon. The CG has good directions to both.
Always good service at Cherry Hill. We all love the pools and the hot tub. The roads are nice for bike riding. It's just a nice place overall.
