Camp Carr, Annondale, NJ

We found this little spot last year. It's on the bank of the South branch of the Raritan river. Small but close to home and a great first spot for a new season shake down trip.

Can you post a link? I tried googling Camp Carr, Annondale NJ, but all I come up with is a YMCA.

That's the place. The Y has a large facility on Rt. 22 but the pool is at the camp ground in Annondale. It's on Camp buck road. They only have about 23 RV sites and only 6 of those can accommodate my RV the rest fit smaller trailers or Class C rigs. They have a bunch of leveled tent pads with water and electric.

There are a few hiking trails for me and my dogs and if you walk down the road to the water plant there's a place they can swim.

Thanks. I didn't see anything on their page about camping. We are always looking for close places for weekend getaways. This probably won't work for us at 43ft. We are closer to the shore area, but many campgrounds there want full week campers, not weekenders like us.

Have you ever tried Turkey Swamp park in Freehold? It's our number 1 choice for weekend get away's. Our MH is near 38 feet and we can fit into almost any site in the park

We have not tried Turkey Swamp, but I will check it out. It's about 20-30 minutes away. My son has camped there with the boy scouts.

We have only been RVing since Nov. 2012, so we haven't been to too many campgrounds yet. The only 2 we have visited in NJ are Beachcomber Resort and Seashore Camping Resort, both in Cape May County.

Those are nice places. When we first started out we also leaned towards modern camp grounds with lots of amenities. The last couple of years we've moved more, if not totally, towards state parks. Modern privately owned parks rely heavily on seasonal campers and with that seem to take on the appearance of trailer parks. At state parks there's a 14 day stay maximum so it's more like camping then living in a community. But to each their own.

I would suggest a drive through Turkey Swamp prior to making reservations to see if whom ever does the driving feels comfortable with the layout. We prefer the E loop.

We should be headed up to Mahlon Dickerson Reservation in Jefferson on April 11-13.

Remember that the water does not get turned on until May.

Mahlon Dickerson Reservation

More info

Great hiking and mountain bicycling.

Just for clarification, Camp Carr is in Annandale, NJ (all 'a's and no 'o's) which is actually part of Clinton, NJ.

Here is the link with contact info on the right hand side of the page:
Camp

Another great place close to Camp Carr is Spruce Run Recreation Area:
SPRUCE RUN RECREATION AREA, NJ - Campground & Camping Details - ReserveAmerica - [NJ]

Unlike Spruce Run, Camp Carr does allow dogs. There are a hiking trails and a river for the swimmers.

They have 30 amp, water and a dump station!
