Ft. Desoto is on the water. They rent out quickly but they always reserve several spots for people that just drive up. No sewer hookups, just a dumpstation.

You probably need to define "nice camp ground". If you want right on the Gulf near all the action (north) then someplace like Camping on the Gulf in Destin may be what you want. Topsail or Henderson state parks, while not beachside are very nice. Further down the coast in the "forgotten coast" area are places like Ho-Hum RV Park and Carrabelle Beach Resort, both in Carrabelle.

As you head further south rv parks near the Gulf become scarcer as high property values led many to close. Although not one of our favorites, a lot of folks like Ft. Desoto near Tampa.

Why not get a map, log onto RV Park Reviews :: Home and go exploring?

In the Port St Joe area, try Port St Joe Peninsula State Park. They have two camping areas, by the beach and in the pines. Very quiet, remote and peaceful. One of our favorite spots! (shh, don't tell anyone!)

There are 2 RV parks right on the water in Ft. Myers beach but both are very crowded and can only take smaller RV's. You might want to check them out.

Yes, so far St. Joseph Peninsula is our favorite Florida state park. Big Lagoon is a favorite because it's close to us, almost never crowded, and really very nice. Suwannee River State Park was surprisingly nice and it has full hook-ups - not on the beach, but on the beautiful Suwannee River and full of interesting historic remains.

When I pulled out on Monday, Rock Crusher RV Park in Crystal River had a few spots opening up. I was there for almost 8 weeks and really enjoyed myself.

It is fairly centrally located, with Tampa, Ocala and Orlando reachable with in a couple of hours.

Good luck

We love Grayton Beach in the Destin area. But here's a link to a great site. Click on Florida and check out their info. The pics alone are invaluable. Check out this site for all their useful info, they do a great job and service to us all. http://wxtoad.com/index.asp?page=mainframe.htm

Red Coconut

Google the red coconut in ft. myers beach, your right on the beach. Or you could try San Carlos Park, we stay there all summer, also right on the water.
