We just booked at Camp Hatteras campgrounds in the Outer Banks for next summer. We booked premium oceanfront sites as we are traveling with 2 other families.

We've never stayed at Camp Hatteras campgrounds before. Any comments about the campgrounds would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Mike

Camp Hatteras is a nice campground with paved sites and has sites ocean side and sound side. Walk to the sound side for sunset each night. Bath houses are okay but not great. The indoor and out door pools are near the office which is located between the sound side and beach side. There is no shade so you may want to bring extra shade. The sites are not huge but is you have three families there is perfect setup you may be able to request, Private Message me and I will tell you about it. We often stay there and have not had any issues. PM me also if you have email address I can send you some photos.

We stayed at Camp Hatteras last October (2007) It was our first trip there. We have a 40' diesel & had plenty of room in our back-in site. We had a "premium ocean front site" as well; HOWEVER.....there is a large sand dune separating the ocean from the park. Backing into our site left us looking out the windshield towards the other RVs. Those other RVs didn't pay for the premium site, but were facing the ocean (and sand dune)! Lesson learned!

People were nice & park was not crowded at all (off season) Bathrooms were TERRIBLE, but we never use the public facilities at a park.

Next time, we'll opt for the SOUND side of the park - beautiful views.
