Campground at Wolf Creek Pass

In 2004 my wife and I were on vacation going over Wolf Creek Pass in September during a time of construction on the pass. While we were waiting in line for the escort vehicle to lead our convoy, I remember looking down below and seeing a beautiful campground with quite a few RVs. I seem to recall this was along side a great looking creek also. Can anyone help me out in the identification of this site> I'm certain it wasn't Bruce Spruce, because that was in the valley beyond and after the pass on the way to Pagosa Springs. I seem to recall this was practically right at the pass, but I may be wrong. We would like to spend some time in the area and I have always had this camp on my mind.

That might be Fun Valley Family Resort - On US-160 approx 9 miles west of South Fork, CO. Over 400 sites - most 30 amp, but many are only 20-amp. Restuarant, many fishing ponds, right on the river. Great vacation spot, but not a good overnight spot due to the tight parking.

Fun Valley Family Resort sits directly off Hwy. 160. You can find pictures here; FUN VALLEY FAMILY RESORT. If this isn't the place you were thinking of, there is an excellent US Forest Service campground on Wolf Creek Pass called Big Meadows that you may have seen as it sits just over a mile off Hwy. 160 and is only about 8 miles from the summit of the pass.

Unfortunately, Big Meadows is closed as the Forest Service completely rebuilds this campground. Phase I is scheduled for completion this fall and Phase II will begin next summer, most likely in June depending on our snowfall this winter. Phase II construction drawings can be found here; http://bit.ly/nqpdju. The campground is scheduled to reopen in 2013.

Good luck with your trip!
