Campground in/around Savannah Georgia
The wife and I are planning our first trip of the season, going for a week or so to Savannah, Georgia. Using Good Sam, I found a state park called Skidaway Island, which looks beautiful, but they do not have a space with sewer hookup. We plan on leaving around April 11th, but we're not locked into a specific date as we are both retired. I am a member of Good Sam and Passport America. Has anyone on here camped in that area with suggestions for a great campground? As can be seen on the left, I have a 33 foot Class A, towing a Ford Focus SE. We want to be relatively close to Savannah (25-30 miles max),and love camping under nice oak trees. Camping directly on waterfront would be nice but not necessary (Close is necessary). Anyone with suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Skidaway Island is a great Park and the dump is easy in and out. I made it 5 days with a little water conservation and dumped on the way out.

Also check out the Crab Shack and Fort Pulaski.

Red Gate southeast of downtown is good Red Gate Campground & RV Resort
The sites at the front of the park are around a large field while the few private shady sites are around back next to the Toy Barn.

X2 on Skidaway Island SP. We stayed there for 4 days. Rustic and quiet, loved it.

Fort McAllister State Park in Richmond Hill is also very nice. Noseums can be a nuisance unless you get windy conditions. Dump station easy to get to and the fort has some nice Civil War exhibits. Savannah is rich in history so be sure to take one of the trolley tours to get a good overview.

We were in Savannah for St Patrick's Day last year and stayed at Savannah Oaks RV Park - nice park and a short drive to downtown. St. Paddy's Day is a week-long party in Savannah!

Skidaway is fine, You should be able to go a week with no sewer without a whole lot of trying. One down side to skidaway is the critters are pretty aggressive That happens when everyone feeds them. Please do not fee the widlife
you might want to check out http://www.sunshinervpark.biz/ It does not have the nice oak trees or waterfront you want (but life is about comprimises) but it is pretty well located. Short drive, UBER ride was 8 bucks.

I stayed at Sunshine Acres, for a month. I was looking for a place close to my daughter as I was just there mostly to visit and site see. I did not care much about the park I stayed in. I had full hook ups and very inexpensive. The park does not have any amenities. It is just off Dean Road and is only a few miles from downtown. Remember I was only looking for a place to stay cheap. The owner was a fun guy and it was a safe place just a few blocks away from a police station. Easy in and out.

We stayed at Hardeeville RV Park just across the border in Hardeeville, SC. It is about a 10 minute drive to the Savannah Visitor Center. It is a bare bones campground. It has a laundry but not bath house. It is also a PPA campground. There are reviews on campgroundreviews.com.
