Campground Location

Going to the Indianapolis 500 this year. Anybody have a suggestion for a good campground or RV resort close to the track? Thanks!

There's a KOA 20 or so miles East on I-70. I suspect that regular sites are reserved well in advance. However, we have been there right after the 500, and noticed they have a big area that appears to be overflow for the week of the race. I don't remember if this was dry camp, or if they had electrical hookups. You can find this park in the KOA guide, or on-line.

Also, I understand lots of residents near the track rent their yards for cars and RV's. Maybe the Indy chamber of commerce or visitor bureau would have more information.

Went there with a group of campers 20 yrs. ago, and at that time most every business in the area of the track rented space in their parking lots for RV's. No water, elec. etc. just a space.

We have stayed in Indy on race weekends at hotels and at a commercial campground out off of I-74 east of Indy. Be prepared for a three day minimum, Fri, Sat and Sunday nights, and absolutely No Refunds.

If you can make a reservation early enough they will make it for two nights but they usually won't honor it unless you have the original confirmation, if then.

We went last year and camped across Georgetown St. from the track. They provide a lot of places. Of course this is dry camping using your generator.

The few days before we went to the track we camped at the Fairgrounds, a few miles north of the speedway. Full hookups. A decent place to overnight.

When I was stationed at Fort Benjamin Harrison in the 80's I attended the 500
Parade downtown before the race and was center field for the race many years.
You can camp at the Indy 500 Speedway.
Visit
Camping Parking - Indianapolis 500 - Indianapolis Motor Speedway
This is a great way to avoid the traffic and congestion getting in and out of the Raceway
and makes partying so much easier and cheaper during quals and on on Race Day.
