Campground near Mt Rushmore

Planning to travel from Frisco Texas to see Mt Rushmore and near by sites. Need a recommendation for a RV park in the area to use as a basecamp.

You'll get a variety of responses, with 70% of them sending you to the Rafter J Bar near Hill City. It's a great park and perfectly located for adventure trips to Rushmore, Custer state park, Crazy Horse, the Needles highway and more.

It's a great area in which to spend time. No doubt you'll enjoy your visit.

Another vote for Rafter-J. We're going back next spring and will be staying there. We stayed at the KOA once. Nice park. Very crowded and there appeared to be a hotel on the premise too. This is the only campground where I had something stolen from my campsite.

While we've never stayed there, I know those that have seem to universally like it. It's just too far, in our opinion, from most of the attractions you go to the 'Hills' to see.

For the sheer beauty of it, spend a few days in Custer State Park. :-)

X 2 Be sure to slow down for the begging burrows. Assume they're still hangin around there - were for many years.

We stayed at Custer Gulch in Custer. Right at the entrance to the park. Worked well for us. We had a pull through site. We will be back this year, first week of August.

If you have kids with you, the KOA is hard to beat. The
pull thru deluxe patio sites are great. Good restaurant on site,
great staff, good location, pretty views. Central location for
seeing the area. Have fun...

Rafter j, open feeling campground with a central location. Good pancakes and nice pool. We enjoyed it, one of our favorites.
