Campground on I-84 in Connecticut

Hi - we're traveling from Maine to NJ and need a campground to stop overnight on I-84 in Connecticut. Thanks!

jerztime-

What time of year?
Would you be willing to go as far as a bit west of Newburgh, NY? Easy shot to 87 south from there.

How about Sturbridge, MA

May want to stop at Sturbridge, MA on the CT border. I believe there are campgrounds there.
There is a Cabela's in East Hartford, CT that may allow overnight parking.

Nothing open this time of year. Only one I know is Aces High by East Lyme CT and thatís a bit out of your way if you want to stay on I84.

X2 on Sturbridge. We do PA to ME at least once a year, and have settled on Sturbridge as a sensible overnight stop on the trip. It's fairly close to halfway. And I have never found much in the way of campgrounds near I84 in CT.

Good luck!

Ooops, no. After several camping-only trips where we weren't satisfied with our overnight choices, all in the general neighborhood of Brattleboro, we finally overnighted at a hotel in Sturbridge on our last trip. But that was a car-only trip (it was 3rd week of October, and *all* ME campgrounds were closed). In terms of travel, the location was perfect.

Having said that, in June we're planning to try the Sturbridge RV Resort (Thousand Trails - we're members), again overnight only, but we do NOT have high expectations. The reviews I've seen aren't real good. But it doesn't look like any of the CGs in the Sturbridge area get good reviews.

I’ve looked for an overnight stay around Sturbridge in the past. Slim pickings.
From NJ? I would get started early and get to Maine in one shot. Start your vacation a day earlier.

We tried that once. I wish. DW especially can't spend that much time on the road. For us, the practical daily travel limit is 300-350 miles. Bummer, huh?

There's a rest stop in Waterbury with a dedicated RV area and dump station if you're looking to save some money.

That's been invisible to me, and a web search doesn't show anything at Waterbury. Looks like there's a TA at Southington, along with a state rest stop. BTW, they lock the doors of the state rest stop at like 3:30 PM, and you have to use port-a-potties after that. Fun.

And of course I84 is a disaster area around Waterbury with the reconstruction project. Guessing that still has a couple of years to go.

There's a state welcome center off I84 near Danbury, too but I've never stopped there. According to the website, that one closes at like 2:30 PM.

We have stayed in the La Quinta in Danbury, CT, with our coach in the Outback Steakhouse parking lot (with permission).

If you can make it all the way to Florida, NY, Black Bear Campground is open year-round. We stayed there one night.

We have also stayed at the KOA in Saugerties, NY.

RV Park Reviews (link here) shows a few campgrounds within 30 miles either side of 84, from the MA state line to the NY state line.

that rest area is the State one just passed Waterbury in Southington and has a dedicated RV parking.....
also the one in Danbury has spaces in lot by dump station
then you have another rest area just before Mass near Vernon..not as big
BUT, in East Hartford at the Robert street exit is a Cabella's that allows RV overnight parking....C
