Campground Recommendation

Hello to All,
About a year ago my wife and I bought a 2006 Winnebago DP to travel through the south during the winter months. Last year we’ve camped locally but we will retire in May and now it’s time to plan for our 2013 winter stays in various parts of the country. We live in Illinois and plan to travel to south Florida right after Christmas of this year. We have friends we will be visiting for a day or two around the Jacksonville area and again around Deltona. From there we would like to stay a few weeks in the West Palm Beach area, then cross the state to Ft. Myers and stay there for another few weeks before heading up and over to Texas for the month of February. We want to stay out of freezing weather so San Antonio or Corpus Christi would be good spots to drop anchor again. We’d stay there for about 3 weeks, then onto southern New Mexico for another two weeks, and the last stop before heading back home will be Yuma, Arizona for a few weeks. We would LOVE some guidance regarding campground recommendations in our travel path. We will be traveling with our pup, so we need places that are pet friendly. We are less concerned with available campground recreation (facilities are important) as we will be making day trips to area attractions during our stay.

Thanks Dan & Linda

This is a great site to learn about campgrounds in many different places.

Very good reviews.

Dan & Linda,

What you're going to find out is the monthly rate is the good deal at all most all of the parks. We stay at two different parks around Houston and pay $275 and $350 a month plus electric. Electric usually runs us about $50 a month. Both places have daily and weekly rates. $35/day $150/week, but daily and weekly come with free electricy.

We just got back from a park by Roosevelt Lake in Arizona where they charge $180 a month plus electric. And it's a nice place, and pretty full.

I've not done any camping in Florida, but I expect the rates might be a bit higher there, but I bet the monthly rate will be the way to go, even if you only plan to stay two or three weeks. We've done that and then come up with an emergency and had to leave early.
