Campground Updates on East Coast after Matthew?

I am looking for first hand info on some campgrounds on the East coast after Matthew hit. This is for a trip next spring. I don't want to call these CG's being they most likely have their hands full. Below is the ones I am checking into.

1) Outer Banks, NC - (I have not decided what I want yet)
2) Myrtle Beach, SC area - (I have not decided what I want yet)
3) Oak Plantation-Charleston, SC
4) Skidaway Island, Savannah, GA

It's not one from your list, but I am posting for the benefit of others who may see your title line and be curious.

Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort has about 40 trees down (and some smaller limbs and such) that will need to be cleared. Resort amenities such as clubhouse were thankfully not damaged. Tree service is due to begin cleanup this week.

Any information about any campgrounds along the East coast is great. I know from experience what happened in the South Louisiana area after Katrina. Every campground was taken over by people that lost their homes.

Not a risk at HHIMR. All lots in the resort are privately owned and only about half are part of the rental program. Of those available to rent, many are not offered as long-term rentals because the owners use them from time to time. I know we did not offer ours as a long term rental option for that very reason. We go there about 5 times a year for a week stay (and we actually make reservations like everyone else so the resort knows when they can rent the space). So if you end up wanting to stay at HHIMR as you travel, you will likely find space available.

Pirateland Family Campground in Myrtle Beach, SC went completely underwater, including the transformers.

Hopefully Pirateland will be up and running soon? Suppose to be headed there on Thursday. They say once they have power restored they should be good to go!
Spoke with them yesterday.

It's way too early to tell about long term locals with housing problems. Other than that everything you mentioned will have more than ample time to clear up damage and get back in operation.

FWIW I have been following friends on Hilton Head and Skidaway. The problem is mostly trees that are blocking the road and took out power lines. Not so much flood damage. Translate that to few folks who have to rebuild their homes but now on stilts thus taking a year or two with permits, people and other delays. That is what took all the time with Sandy so assume it was the issue with Katrina.

Since you're not going until spring why not give them a few weeks and then call for their status? It's amazing what can be accomplished in a month or two after the waters go down.

We're staying at myrtle beach resort - right between Ocean Lakes and Lakewood and overlook both. Lakewood is partially open and some sections remain closed. Pirate land still looks totally empty. Ocean Lakes looks totally operational. We usually stay at Lakewood, but their website was useless for providing storm updates while Ocean Lakes website gave frequent updates. It seemed that Ocean Lakes was much more prepared for the storm than either Lakewood or Pirateland.

FYI - the motor coach resort will not allow anyone in, owners or renters, for at least a week or more, per management. Damage was severe but fixable.

Skidaway Island is closed until Nov. 11. They called and let us know that they are cancelling a small portion of our reservation due to fallen trees.

When going to a campground that has experienced flooding, I would want to be especially sure to test voltage at the pedestal. I would also be concerned about water quality and possible contamination, especially if they are on a well. We have always had to have our well water tested after post-flood events.

As far as state parks in sc Edisto beach and Hunting island hit really hard, maybe not reopening until January ,although some off beach sites may open sooner.Myrtle Beach area state parks seem to be in better shape mostly trees and limbs down will probably reopen in a week or two per local state park ranger.Anything west of 95 should be good.
