Thinking about attending the balloon festival in Albuquerque the weekend of Oct 5-9. Any campgrounds nearby that we could stay at. We will have 4 RVs altogether.
thanks

Paul & Helen,
Welcome to irv2.com. Do a web search for the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, find the official site and consider staying right in the camping area at the Balloon Fiesta. We did in 2005 with a Winnebago group and it was fantastic. Free transportation to the launch area 1/2 mile away and some of the balloons even landed among the RVs. We had 30 Amp service and water - honey wagon service is available. Much better than in a CG away from the action and fighting traffic going to or from the area.

Traffic is grim. Stay on the grounds. Cost is actually very similar.

Hi Paul and welcome to posting on iRV2. Frank has the right idea. If your party can hook up with one of the many rally sponsors, for me, that would be the way to go. Good Sam, FMCA, your coach's manufacturer club, etc. all sponsor ralllies for this event.

From what I observed, there were many groups camped in our area but the place is huge. I'm fairly certain you could get in there to camp as an individual or small independent group of friends.
At any rate - it is an awe inpiring event! You cannot imagine what it is like to see over 600 balloons in the air at once.

Good Sam does a great Balloon Festival trip with other excursion added in all inclusive. We had friends who went last year, said it was great. The balloons went right over them everyday. Deciding if we will go this year!

You can go as a group, just the 4 of you. When you book your sites just tell them you all are together and you must pull in together to be parked together.

You'd better hurry as we made our reservations last month as the gal said there was only a few RV sites left. Here's the web site:
http://www.balloonfiesta.com/Guests/Travel_Help/rv.php
If you can't get in there here is the Albuquerque area campground ratings: Expect higher rates from all of them during the Balloon Fest, we priced one that siad $55 a night, non-refundable, ugh.

good luck, Steve & Terri

Staying at the balloon park is the best. (Traffic is unbelievable) But if you want, there are serveral nice park near by, Stage Coach Stop (in Bernalillio), KOA (older but close by) KOA in downtown ABQ (I do not recommend this one), American Rv. And Trails West. We have stayed at all of them and they are OK. But be aware, driving into the fiesta can take 2 to 3 hours and the balloons launch around 7 am..... But it is worth every bit of the hassel....
