Campgrounds in and around Dallas TX

We will be travelling from Jackson, MS to Dallas, TX and looking for a place to camp for a couple of nights that has hiking trails. We have a 35 foot coach. Need full hookup.

Cedar Hill State Park is a really nice park with lots of sites. They have really good hiking trails and some good mountain bike trails.

Cedar Hills is often crowded I have been shut out with my 35 coach before. They do not have full hookups only water and electric (not sure if all are 50amp). We stay in Grapevine at the Vinyards. This is a very well done city park on the lake. It is near lots of things to do. Every site is big level and full hook ups. They have good cycling in and around the campground, hiking trails are not that great. Further north of Dallas on Lake Ray Roberts on the north side is a great State Park (Ray Roberts sp) with some large sites with full hookups. We stay there on our way to OKC and really like it, great cycling and hiking.

We have yet to find a STATE PARK in Texas with full hook ups. They have dumps to be used on exiting.
DFW is 75+/- miles from east to west and nearly the same north to south and all IN TRAFFIC! Where specifically were you interested in visiting?

This website shows all of the TX State Parks with full hook-ups. There are also alot of Corps of Engineer RV parks with full hook-ups. We are going to Hickory Creek in Lewisville soon to camp with our daughters and their families. Full hookup and 50A. We have found some great COE campsites in TX. Check out www.recreation.gov/ . Half off of US Gov campsites if you are 62 and over with Senior Pass.

Well, here ya go! Davis Mountains State Park.

Campsites & Other Facilities: The northern half of the park, north of State Highway 118, has been designated the Limpia Canyon Primitive Area, a special use area (fee required). Currently, it includes 10 miles of backcountry hiking trails with primitive tent campsites, primitive equestrian-only campsites, a secured parking area, a host campsite. Developed facilities south of State Highway 118 include restrooms with and without showers; campsites with water; campsites with water and electricity; campsites with water, electricity, sewer, and cable TV connection; a group picnic area with tables, an outdoor amphitheater (capacity 200 - no fee); picnic sites; a playground; an interpretive center (staffed by volunteers); 9 miles of hiking trails (not including the Limpia Creek Primitive Area) ; and a Texas State Park Store. Special rates are available (Contact the park for information). A self-registration station is available at the headquarters for visitors arriving after office hours and/or park host duty hours. Campsite availability and status information are posted each evening.

Full hookups (50 amps) and cable TV.

You'll be coming in on I-20, very convenient for Cedar Hill. An alternative is Traders Village, halfway between Dallas and Fort Worth, off I-20.

I've never used it, but a friend just parked his Prevost there for a week, while he was attending flight training.

We've stayed in at least 8 state parks in the last year with full hook ups.

Driving in, around or through Dallas has never been a problem for us unless its rush hour(s) or an accident.

Davis Mountain State Park is a good one but the daily commute might be a deal killer. Upside...traffic will be lite.

I would also second the Vinyards. Close to the DFW airport, on Lake Grapevine, easy drive to DFW area. Not the cheapest, but very nice. They just finished a lot of construction in the park this year. It is run by the City of Grapevine.

We enjoyed the Vineyards Campground for a week this past April. Also enjoyed the shopping and eateries in Grapevine.

We also went to the Vineyards. It was the first trip in our motorhome. We enjoyed the park and Grapevine. Good spaces and the arrangement of the park is really nice.

So far the fishing is average with a score of nil but the outlook over the marina and lake us fantastic.
They also hire push bikes and canoes.

Coming in on 20 I would suggest Tyler state park, Eisenhower state park, Ray Roberts state park which has a north and south parks and last but not least Lake Tawokoni state park.

Hi Y'all, Planning a trip to the Dallas Ft. Worth area this weekend. Looking for a real nice campsite for my 40 footer. Hear that the Vineyards has a lot of construction going on nearby and wondered if anyone has been there recently. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Many Thanks!!
