Can anyone recommend a nice campground in or around Ocala fl area? I want a place for the winter months for 2011, nothing real fancy but reasonably priced, clean, with some activities for seniors. thanks

Go to rvparksreview.com. Click on Florida and then Ocala. Should find something to suit your needs. If not, try town nearby

While you're looking in the RV Parks Review, check out "Wilderness Park Estates", located in the Silver Springs area, on Ft. Brooks Rd. We stayed there a few days this year and loved it. Concrete pads, paved roads and lots of grass. Very, very nice. I would highly recommend it to anyone. It's near, but not in the "Silver River SP". If that's not to your liking, check the park in "Umatilla, FL". Also, very nice.

You did not say if you had a particular reason to stay near Ocala. We stay at an Airstream park in Melbourne (SOB's welcome and $495/mo in Winter) and have noticed that the temps up in the Ocala area are cooler than further south. It is common to get temps down into the 20's up there most years. When you are south of roughly a line from Tampa-Orlando-Melbourne, it is rare to get a frost in the Winter.

In five years we have never seen temps any were near 20. Last year was cooler than most, as was the rest of the country. There were 3/4 nights when is got down to 31 or 2 and on Jan 10th there was SNOW, had to scrape slush off the hood of the truck to make a golf ball sized snowball, by 8am there was no sign of it and by 10am it was in the mid 70's, right where we like it.

I agree that most cold nights warm up nicely by Noon. But, I did not say that the temp was near 20, I said it got into the 20's (29 qualifies...). Check out the January averages and record temps for Ocala from the Weather Channel. When the average low is 45/46 for the month, it is definitely chilly.
I assume you do agree that it is colder in Ocala area than it is south of Orlando.

Hi All,
Hey Tom41,
Myself and at least 3 other iRV2 members spend the winters at Wilderness RV Park Estates in Silver Springs, will be our 4th winter there, have also stayed at Ocal Sun and enjoyed it, but we think Wilderness is nicer & has more to do! There are 3 sections in the park we are in the Town Park section! Also if you stay in the area let me know, last year about 22 of us from iRV2 went out to dinner, so as you can see there are a few of us in that whole area! If you have any more questions about this park or the area feel free to PM me!
Welcome to Wilderness RV Park Estates in Ocala, Florida (FL)

I sure thank everyone for their quick replies! Seems there are a lot of good choices in that area. I will look into all parks mentioned. This past winter was colder than normal everywhere it seems. We spent most of last winter at Gulf Shores state park which is really nice but it was cold there this time and windy. Since I am a "songbird" carver, I do like warmer weather since the wife gets disturbed with wood chips flying inside the fifthwheel!!! lol! thanks again everyone.

Tom, keep us posted, we have a couple of IRV2 member and friends get togethers during the season. Usually start at one of our sites then on to one of the many nice restaurants in the area.
