My DW just got a new assignment in Tucson starting Jan 6th. Are there any suggestions for RV parks that are not in the city. We will be staying there at least 3 months & maybe longer. My wife will be working at Tucson Medical Center Hospital. I have checked campgroundreviews.com. But I am just looking for anyone else comments.

I am thinking maybe Justin's Diamond J RV Park, Desert Trails RV Park, & Bar J RV Park. I realize by Google maps these are about 30+ min to the hospital. But we also need easy access to the international airport with out being in the flight pattern. DW will be working nights, sleeping during the day, she doesn't need airport or train noise if avoidable.

Any comments on these parks or any other would be greatly appreciated.

Justin's Diamond J RV Park and Desert Trails RV Park are next door to each other. It is a quick shot to the hospital from here. We are at Desert Trails.

We stayed at Desert Trails last winter for a while. REALLY enjoyed it! It is kinda funky to look at (old water park) but we are new RV'ers & they absolutely made us feel at home. Lots of fun activities & the RV'ers also included us in all the fun things to do. Another real plus for us was the desert hiking trails right out your back door.

Depending on wind direction the parks mentioned are very close to the flight path for Tucson International and Davis Mautham (sp?).

Rincon Country West is in line with those parks and the airport and we stayed there and could recommend it but the plane noise can be very distracting particularly the Air Force jets.

Voyager is on the other side of Tucson, out of town, very nice. I just cannot speak to the jet noise out there, no trains or none close enough to be distracting of which I am aware.

We just spent a week in Benson at Valley Vista. It was nice, quiet, clean and reasonable but is a ways out from the city.

I was looking at the Voyager RV resort...looks like a great park/community, but costs a bit more and is much closer to Tucson. We may try to go back there in February. :-)

At Desert Trails 2 months now. No planes.

Rincon is about $180mo more for a back-in site. Nice but pricey

The fairgrounds also has full hookup sites.

Are the Fairgrounds available on a monthly basis & open year round? Kind of dismissed them due to being fairgrounds.

Everyone else, thanks for the info. I will check Voyager. I am leaning towards Desert or Diamond. But we really hate to make reservations when we have no first hand idea of the area or the park. We have been burned in the past & are very cautious of making a commitment before we get there.

We didn't make reservations. The lady in benson said they had bit been full in several years. You could find a place and just pay for a couple of days and then scout the area. We were able to use our passport America discount even though the book said it was only valid during summer. Look at rvreviews.com for the parks you are interested in. It really helps.

Gilbert Ray Campground - Pima County

This place is in the National Park. Twenty dollars a night. A brief stay here might give you enough time to scout around as well.

I spent two winters at Voyager. Nice place, pretty quiet at night but lots of activity during the daytime. I worked nights for years (not while staying at the Voyager). I'm not sure if I could sleep there during the day. There is some jet noise, particularly loud when the National Guard F16's are flying from the International Airport. Most of the jet traffic from DM Air Force Base are A10's, not as noisy (no afterburners). The train tracks are on the other side of the freeway from the Voyager. You can hear them in the distance, mostly at night.

RV parks in general are not the quietest places. I hope your wife is accustomed to sleeping with ear plugs and a fan running.

Yes,fairgrounds are year round, and monthly. You could book there, and then snoop around.
