Campgrounds near Grass Valley and Lake Tahoe

We are planning a trip in the next week or so to Grass Valley, Ca to see our kids and the only RV camping we see is "Auburn Gold Country RV Park" has anyone stayed there? Is it nice? Then we hope to take the grand kids to South Lake Tahoe for a few days and we have reservations at "Zephyr Cove Resort". Has anyone stayed there? Any insights before we go?

There is also a campground at the Fairgrounds in Nevada City that has FHU. I haven't stayed there but supposed to be nice.

Also I have heard good things about Zephyr but have not stayed there

Check out campgroundreviews.com. Have a great time, very nice areas.

We have stayed at Tahoe Valley Camground and Zephyr Cove and both are nice. Zephyr Cove is alittle nicer but harder to get in at this time of the year. Both are about 40 plus miles to Grass Valley. You should have a great trip in the cool mountain air at night. Great area and good campgrounds.

One would think that there would be a 'better' selcetion on CG in this area. When we stop in this area we have stayed at the Loomis RV park. Not up scale, but close to the people that we are visiting and close to the Enterprise rental in Roseville.
It will be interesting to see what else is there for CG.

Nevada County Fairgrounds

Great campground! We stay there often when we are in northern Calif. Trees are at least 100 foot tall pines you camp under. Only problem getting in if there is something going on at the Fairgrounds. Nice place, highly recommend it.

Auburn Gold RV Park is very nice. We have stayed there a few times. It used to be a KOA and left the franchise for their own reasons. The spots are level gravel and easy to manuver. Owners and staff are friendly and helpful. There is a small fishing pond behind and on the property which can be fun for the kids. Major shopping is just down the hill, Target, Supermarket, AAA offices, restaurants. The town of Old Auburn can be fun to walk, lots of history. If you have time for a day trip, drive into Sacramento to see the Train Museum, the best I've seen, and I've seen many.
Anyway I would recommend Auburn Gold to a friend, and I would stay there myself if needed. Usually, now, when we head up that way to visit friends we stay on their property as they added a 50amp circuit just for us.
Happy Trails.

Thanks all, I am writing this from our space in Auburn Gold Country RV park. We have a great spot near what mostly appear to be long timers. We have a nice concrete patio, a lawn and 2 shade trees with room for the car in front of the coach. A very nice place, just what we were looking for. We went up to the Nevada County Fair today, checked out the park there. It seemed cramped and we didn't see any spots actually in the pines.... mostly in a field, much like a dirt parking lot, what did we miss!

The Fairgrounds, IMO, is nice, clean, functional but nothing special. Your sewer hose will definitely be sitting in someone else's patio, for practical purposes. Not that it's a terrible thing but roomy, it ain't.
