Campgrounds near Omaha Zoo

We have been going to the zoo in Omaha for years. Finally bought a fifth wheel last year. Now that the wife is won over on taking the fifth wheel instead of paying for a hotel, I need to find a good campground within reasonable distance of the zoo.

We have three kids and a dog with us and would like to find something with swimming and hiking trails.

If anyone has recommendations, I would really appreciate hearing from you.

My son just moved to Omaha. It is the worst place I've ever been to park. Try COE, KOAs too. Most mobile home parks are really run down.

Looks like this site got revamped since I last used it. Disregard 'Featured Campgrounds" on the top and bottom of the page as they are paid advertisements and have nothing to do with Omaha. This would sure confuse a newbie. :(

Anyway, here's the link for Omaha:

My son lives in Omaha and I visit often. Have never stayed at Pine Grove which is actually closer to Lincoln. There is a KOA in Gretna but it is pricey. The sites are tight and not even close to being level but it does have a pool, miniature golf which is in disrepair, a bounce pillow and sling line. There are two State Parks nearby. Eugene Mahoney, also close to Lincoln, and Two Rivers but both are electric only. Willow Creek, a city park in Papillion is very nice. Spacious sites but electric only. Last time I stayed there it was only $16 a night but they only accept cash and no reservations, first come first serve. There are a few more across the River in Iowa but I donít know much about them.

Hi. We visited Omaha friends and the Zoo (best in USA) this June. We stayed at Mahoney SP which is near Lincoln. Nice park with lots of amentities. It was only 30 AMP and water with dump station which was OK. The 30 AMP was an issue B/C it was HOT. Almost 100. We could only consistnetly run one A/C so not the best. In normal weather it would be a nice SP.

Hitchcock nature center is a fantastic county park with lots of GREAT trails just north of omaha (in iowa) however its a county park so no pool or reservations.
KOA is about the only hope for finding a place with a pool and Mahoney state park has both but is about 45 minutes west of the zoo.

I Live about 5 minutes from the zoo (in Iowa), so if there is anything I can do to help please feel free to ask.

Pine grove in greenwood between Omaha and Lincoln is the nicest we have found. Visit family in Omaha often. Closest to zoo would be the Famcamp at offutt afb if you are military. Really nice sites.
