Camping after Sturgis

Can anyone tell me when the Sturgis rush is over? We are planning a trip through the Black Hills in August 2015 and don't want to get stuck in the rush of the rally.

Any time after will be calmer. Next year is the 75th, so it will be a mad house.

Expecting over a million people.

We went through last year the week before and the whole area was a parking lot and then came back the week after and there were still crouds everywhere we went in the Black hills but not as bad as the week before. This year be we be even worse since it's the 75th time. We heard last year they estimated the # of bikes near 1/2 a million and I can believe that. Amazes me since I was a missile baby sister near Sturgis back in the early 70s and the main street of town would be filled with bikes and a little spill over around town but still in the hundreds. Good thing is that they are very well behaved.

Thanks y'all! Kinda what I figured. I was just concerned about finding camping spots and showing my wife the "Hills" without crazy traffic. I have seen the stats and predictions of the number of people attending this year.

Last time we were there was in 2012--- hung out for 2 weeks. The last Sunday of the rally, we almost had the entire CG to ourselves as everyone had left. after another day or so, the area was pretty much back to normal with the exception of a few stragglers like us.

Send a message via ICQ to Fred and Bonnie
The "Rule of Thumb" for Black Hills tourism says the season is over when the rally ends. Later part of August and Sept. are dead.
