Our daughter has just been assigned to flight school at Corpus Christi. Recommendations for campgrounds in the area?

Thanks!

There's not much in CC, a couple of campgrounds on the west side of town. Probably the best close to the NAS is Colonia del Rey RV Park, about 3 miles from the base. Padre Palms and Marina Village are very close to the base but the neighborhood is a little seedy. Your best bet for nicer campgrounds is around Port Aransas or Aransas Pass. Lots of them. Rockport and Fulton beach is a little further north and lots of very nice campgrounds as well.

Dave, Fran..AND..Virginia! Yup, we sure agree that a good spot is the Rockport/Fulton Beach area. Great campgrounds, GREATER people, and easy access into Corpus. OH...also don't overlook the seafood and other restaurants for some GooooooooD eatin. Course, I was partial to the FABULOUS ground steak dinner (gravy, mashed potatoes, etc.) at MOON DOGGIES next to the oyster fleet docks in Fulton Beach. But try em all!! Have fun. Steve & Lynette

Thank you all for your responses. I'll check out the options down there. We are looking forward to visiting that direction. We have enjoyed her time at the NAS Pensacola...especially camping on the beach at the NAS. So both Stephanie, our daughter, and David want to know THE BEST place to get "oysters on the half".

Everyone is on target with their comments. If you don't mind the drive, I've enjoyed my numerous visits to Ransom Road RV Park in Aransas Pass. Pretty new, all paved, and WiFi.

When I was stationed at the Naval Hospital there myself and some friends would enjoy eating at the Black Diamond Oyster Bar. Very good food. Another place my wife and I found a few years ago is Pier 99. It is located down by the USS Lexington and the Texas State Aquarium. At Pier 99 you have the choice of eating inside or out on the patio. The patio might be kind of iffy now with cooler weather coming in. The food there is great also. There is also a Landry's Seafood Restaurant located down at the docks.
Lagoons RV Resort in Rockport north of Corpus Christi is a very nice place to stay.
Have a lot fun while you there it is not hard to do.

David and Fran,
Sorry I did not see this thread earlier. If your daughter is stationed at CC NAS, she can get you on the campground (Shields NAS) as a guest. Very Reasonable and right their on station. Ask her to check with them.

It can get windy along the coast this time of year. Toppers will flap like the devil.

And congratulations.
