Camping close to New Orleans

My wife will be attending a conference in N.O. May 2012. She will be staying in a Hotel in the city. I want to stay in my MH outside of N.O. I thought about staying in Slidel La. or Bay Saint Louise, Ms. Any good suggestions. Want safe secure place. Thanks, Dean

When we were there we really enjoyed Bayou Segnette State Park. Close to the city, but also lots of green and space.
If you're interested I've got pics of the spot on the blog here

The KOA west in NO is nice and secure. About 12 miles from the quarter.

We were at Pontchartrain Landing in Oct. Very nice. It's on a canal, quiet, and they have a shuttle to take you to the French Qtr.

Four years ago we spent 4 days at the French Quarter RV Park just south on I-10, and a couple of blocks of the French Quarter. Great CG, altho pricy, $67.00 per nite. We had an '87 Pace Arrow, surrounded by BIG NEW DP's. Made them all jealous. Eddie Elk.

Stay out of the ones in Slidell, unless you are really really fond of ants and spiders.

I live here.... I know of nothing against Ponchartrain Park, but France Road is an industrial area east of the city, and FQRV is a walled-in "CG" almost under the elevated interstate-bridge approach...and pricy too.

IMO, your best bet is the State Park-Bayou Signette. Easy to get into the City & French Quarter from there, via a $1.00 toll bridge, using US Hwy 90B. This State Park is very nice, quite, affordable, and they take reservations. http://www.stateparks.com/bayou_segnette.html
