Smile camping in / around Atlanta Georgia

We are looking for a nice place to camp with our 40 footer as close to downtown Atlanta as is "safely" possible. Our daughter and Son-in-law live inside what they call " the perimeter". Well, they live there, but the big reason to visit is the soon to be 1 year old grandson !!
Anyone stayed in the area with good results ?

We recently stayed at "Stone Mountain campground" nice and clean on a nice lake next to two golf courses. Less than 15 minutes from downtown Atlanta.

I can tell you where not to stay; Alatoona Landing Campground in Cartersville. A train track is nearby with a crossing very close to the campground. Frequent train horns all night and I could feel the rumble of the train as it passed.

We stayed at Twin Lakes RV Park in Cumming Ga. just about 20 miles from downtown Atlanta and we were very happy with the place. No amenities, no frills and very reasonable price. We camped there last year and got a spot on the water. I wouldn't hesitate going back when in the area.

We camp in metro Atlanta once or twice per year. From what you describe as your requirements, your best choice is Stone Mountain Campground. Everything else is too far away. Stone Mountain is nice. Not cheap, but closest to the area where you want to visit. Take the kids to the laser show while you're there.
