Camping in Estes Park in August
Looking for recommendations with W/E or FHU sites. I've looked at the reviews and there doesn't appear to be a clear cut choice. We will be in a 30' MH towing a Jeep. Right now, I'm leaning toward Elk Meadow Lodge and RV Park. Pros/cons, the good, bad and ugly. Other options? We also travel with 2 dogs and have no children.
Another concern is getting to this campground - it appears as though we will have to drive into downtown Estes. Or am I missing something on the map. We will be coming from Loveland.
Thanks.

River view RV park is west of Loveland. Really nice with trees and the river. If you stay there you can drive your toad to Estes Park!

We stayed at Spruce Lake last summer and loved the location. It is between Estes Park and RMNP, about 1/2 a block off the road leading into RMNP. We came in from Loveland and had no problem with the traffic. We have a 37 foot MH and BIL was in a 35 foot towing a jeep. The wifi worked good and the people were friendly. It was our second time staying there and when we go back that way we will stay there again.

We have stayed at Elk Meadows twice. Sites are not real big but it is right at the entrance to the park. Both times we visited a heard of Elk came through the campground. Baby Elk stopped to be feed by their Mom. CG was clean nothing special about it other than a great location. Driving through Estes is no problem with a MH.

Elk Meadows is a very nice park, the Jeep is absolutely correct. If we go again this will be our park of choice.

This is indeed a nice place to stay. We even found a site with satellite access through the trees. Open the windows at night and hear the stream rushing over the rocks. Ony complaint I had was the lack of gravel or even pavement on the interior roads. Lots of dust. They did have a water truck come through in the morning and evening. Then you had mud for a while until it could dry up or soak in. We left early because of the fires just over the ridge to the west. It was a few minute drive to RMNP.
If you go up there, drive the oneway dirt road from the east side of RMNP up to the summit and the visitors center. Trail Ridge Road or Old Trail RIdge. Any of the rangers can give you directions to find the east end of it.

I think the road Doc is talking about is called the Old Falls River Road. It is worth the time to take the drive, as is the road down Big Thomson Canyon. Both are better in a toad instead of MH.

Thanks for all the great info. Think we will stay in either Spruce Lake or Elk Meadow - both look like great places. And I love that the Elk come right into the campground. And probably River View in Loveland the night before we head on into Estes. It will be a perfect place to stop - mileage/travel time wise. And we will defintelndrive the Jeep up Fall River Road!! Grat options from all!!

Just got back from my stay at Elk Meadow Lodge and RV Resort - while I wouldn't call it a "resort" it is a nice park. Sites are a bit to close for my liking, but the location and views out weigh the closeness. Very nice and helpful staff, too. Will definitely stay again next time out.

Love spruce lake. Private trout pond. Nice little river on property. Could be better pads if cement but we've been there 3 times from LA and headed that way again tomorrow. Got 3 weeks.
