Just spent a week in pigeon Forge, TN the end of june. Planning to spend 4-5 days in the NC mountains early fall. For the TN side of the Smoky's I would HIGHLY reccomend Foothills Rv Park in pigeon forge. Was thinking of taking the trip this fall to the Boone area, but have decided to explore other options. So, Where are you favorite places to go in NC mountains, what to do there, and what CG do you stay at ? Thanks

Try Western NC.Look at Hanging Dog Creek Campground on Google.If you want to relax and enjoy peace and quite and beautiful scenery,please give this a shot.Full hook ups (no 50 amp) at 25.00 per night.

There numerous CORP of Engineers parks as well as private parks all along the route north and south of the Blue Ridge park way Blowing Rock is a place you do not want to miss.

Any body stayed at either Flintlock campground or Honey Bear Campground in recent years ? We use to stay at Flintlock and My Aunt and Uncle use to stay at Honey Bear but it has probably been 10 or so years ago.

We stayed at Honey Bear over the 4th. Love the sites along the creek, but pay attention to the site size. Voltage was low, but we never saw temps at the site over mid 80's, btw it was well over 100 in Chattanooga.

Thanks for posting this and alerting me to the Pigeon Forge CG. It is right near the Tail of the Dragon, a place I want to ride my motorcycle on. The reviews were great!

My favorite is Trail's End in Waynesville/Maggie Valley. It's a small place, about 45 sites or so, and the scenery is wonderful. Its quiet, strong wifi and 80 channels of cable, minutes from Waynesville and Maggie Valley... the owner and park hosts are absolutely incredible, nice friendly and bend over backwards to make you feel welcome. I'm headed there day after tomorrow in fact.

We love WNC, particularly the Brevard/Asheville area. Moonshine Creek is just a couple of miles from the Blue Ridge and Waynesville but set in the mountains. Over the other side is Lake Powhatten where some sites have water and electric; Davidson River if you can get in; we hosted at Cascade Lake Recreation Area which is on Cedar Mountain nestled between two lakes in the DuPont State Forest some of the most beautiful waterfalls and hiking and close to Brevard, Asheville and Hendersonville. We are in a MH. With a pop up, the world is yours! Enjoy ... it is beautiful in the fall.

Loved Stone Mountain Park. The premium sites have a private deck with a gas grill. We were there last week. The attached picture was out site with a view of the lake. There is also a tram that takes you to the main park.

We were there in March and there were only a few other campers. We only stayed one night as we were almost home from a trip, but will absolutely go back again.
Just as an FYI...if you open the campground map, we stayed in #55 which put us right alongside a running stream. It was the proverbial "babbling brook" and lovely to fall asleep listening to it.
Country roads leading to the park but none too steep or narrow.
Bathhouse was clean and user friendly.
If I could figure out how to move pictures off my camera, I have some pictures on it.
The new NC parks site has a lot of good information.
Anything else you'd like to know, just ask.
