We'll be in the Cedar Rapids, IA area in early June. We had plans to go there in 2008 but changed them after the terrible flooding that occurred in the midwest. We looked at a state park near a dam,and close to Cedar Rapids. I don't recall the name. Any recommendations for a 35' coach, and our dog is traveling with us. How about the Amana colonies? Is it a good place to visit and any recommendations on camping?
Thanks!
Keith

The Amana Colonies is a nice place to visit and the campground is more than adequate for your coach and dog. Long pull-through gravel sites with both 50 and 30 amp service. Very short drive to Cedar Rapids. Amana would be a good choice.

Pleasant Creek State Park, about 20 miles north near Center Point is very nice. And you can view, then reserve your site online at the State of Iowa website www.iowa.gov

There are actually quite a few great choices, Cedar Rapids is our home territory. The State park you are thinking of is Lake McBride state park, it is on the Coralville resevoir. The link for it is:
IA DNR: State Parks,Lake Macbride State Park.
There are also several COE campgounds on the reservoir, we really like both Sugar Bottom and Sandy Beach and West Overlook is pretty good. Here is the link to those:
Corps Lakes Gateway: Iowa - Coralville Lake
These parks are actually between Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.
Our two favorite parks are actually closer to Cedar Rapids and are Linn county parks. they are:
Morgan Creek: Morgan Creek Park - Linn, IA
Squaw Creek: Squaw Creek Park - Linn, IA
That ought to give you lots of choices, hope you enjoy your time in our area. We will be living in our RV this summer and you may find us in one of these parks, perhaps we will meet along the way.

To all; Wow! Thanks for all the great suggestions. We'll spend some time reviewing and pick a spot to spend a few days. I can't wait get going. There is still two feet of snow between the coach and the driveway, but it is melting fast!

MM, thanks for sharing my request. The results are very helpful.

Keith
