Camping near Maroon Bells

Hi,

I've been trying to find a place to park my 33' class C near Maroon Bells, Maroon Lake (Colorado), on short notice (within the next 5 days or so), it now being 7/26/14, and I'm not having much luck. Recreation.gov made reservations for me 16 miles away in Redstone but it turned out that was 16 miles as the crow flies, 54 miles and 90 minutes drive as people do, so I cancelled that.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to places I might check. I prefer free, after that, economical, and in all cases within an hour's drive.

I've checked Silver Bell, Silver Bar, and maybe another Silver Something-or-other campground. I haven't been able to find out if there are non-reservable sites big enough for my 33' rig, but there was nothing I could reserve. I found Weller and Lost Man via ForestCamping.com and these may be possibilities.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There are two quite nice FS campgrounds between Redstone and Marble. We stayed at the one on road 3 just past where 133 goes over McClure Pass. We had. no problems driving through a d checking either CG. Marble is definitely worth spending a day

I found one at McClure Pass called McClure Campground. I see another one by Marble called Bogan Flats. Are those the two to which you refer?

Try Aspen Basalt Campground in Basalt on Hwy 82 - 970-927-3405.

There's also White River/Chapman Dam Nat'l Forest C.G. on 104 - 82 sites, 5 pull-throughs 20x50; backins 12x47 970-963-2266.

Good luck!
