Our son and his wife will be having their first child the middle of October. They live in the Lincoln Square area close to Wrigley Field in the north part of Chicago. We want to find a camping place where we can leave our 38' motorhome and drive in daily to spend time with them. They say that for traffic reasons we will definitely want to be north of them; we already know that coming from the south or west gets you into awful traffic. Does anyone know of a place we can park for 2-3 weeks to the north of the city?

We visited Chicago a couple years ago for a vacation and stayed at Illinois Beach State Park, which is north on the IL - WI border. By my mapping program, it appears to be 41 miles from Lincoln Park. It is a really nice state park right on Lake Michigan.

There a very few places to camp anywhere in close to Chicago.

As cdrcos stated, there are very few places to camp near Chicago! There is one other state park north of Chicago - Chain O'Lakes, which is near the IL/WI border. But both state parks are listed as only being open May thru Oct! There is a campground, Lehman's Lakeside Resort, which is about 50 miles northwest of Chicago, in Marengo, that is open year round.

We stayed at Fish Lake Beach CG in Volo, IL several years ago. It was convienient to the NW areas of Chicago although the traffic was a challenge. (847)546-2228. It's 1/2 mile from the junction of of US 12 and IL SR-120. Good luk.
