Camping options near Philadelphia?

Does anyone have suggestions for a place to camp in a 21' camper van near Philadelphia? We know of French Creek State Park but it's too far away from our destinations (Norristown and Bala Cynwyd). We would love to hook up but will boondock if needed. Any suggestions?

Nothing I can personally recommend other than another resource to consult.

Download the "RV Parky" app to your smartphone and plug in the zip code of where you want to be... it will show you not only campgrounds but walmarts, cracker barrels, etc... where you could boondock.

Good luck on your trip.

We stayed at Timberline Camp ground in August, 2015. Very nice. We camped there while we toured downtown Philadelphia with our grand daughter. Access to Philadelphia was easy. we visited: The Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Congress Hall, Elfreth’s Alley, National Constitution Center ,US Mint, Betsy Ross House, Franklin Residence (white metal frame structure), Ben Franklin grave, Benjamin Franklin Institute, Graff House; the place where Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence, Philadelphia Art Museum (ran up the steps where "Rocky" ran up), On the way home we visited Valley Forge.

We are planning to stay at West Chester KOA which is about 40 miles from downtown Philadelphia. We will take the subway in and leave the dinghy outside the downtown area.

Not really great options around Philadelphia. We stayed at the KOA, and frankly weren't impressed. A nicer campground is Brandywine Creek. One place that has me intrigued, but I have no experience, is actually in Philadelpha. Campus Park and Ride, advertising Water & Electric, with a dump station onsite. The following appeared online and I saved it for future reference. I have not stayed there but it looks like a viable option for Philly. Would appreciate a report back from you if you do wind up staying there.

Philly Park & Ride near Penn:
Campus Park and Ride | RV Customers
Stayed there 3 nights last week. We arrived on Sunday afternoon and left on Wednesday noon. It is truly a parking lot. Most users work in the University of Penn Medical Center area. The free shuttle bus (runs 24 hr) will take you from the lot to a bus stop in the Medical Center area where you can board the #42 bus which will take you to the front of Independence Hall. Easy ride and cost $2.25. The lot has 50amp power, water and sewage hookups for about 8-10 rvs. Did not need reservations, they said to just show up (Might need reservation for big events in city like the Pope visiting this fall). It felt very safe with entire area fenced in and shuttle drivers there all night. Check out their website at Campus Park and Ride in Philadelphia. I would do it again if in the area.

A wonderful place outside of Philadelphia

Village Scene Park, 2151 Koffel Rd., Hatfield, PA 19440

This place is located just off the Lansdale exit on the Northeast Extension (turnpike). It is a mobile home park with RV parking. CLEAN and a great staff. Park on a pad or blacktop. You can park their in the winter as well. We have stayed at the KOA and agree - it is not a great place. The Village Scene Park is by far the best place in the Philly area. Google it - you will find it is very close to everything you want to do in Philly. You can take the train from Lansdale (about 3 miles to train station.)

Enjoy Philly - it is a great city!
