Can we keep a wildfire thread going?

Tomorrow we leave for a trip from San Antonio through Ruidoso, NM, and across I-40 to Bakersfield before heading to Napa.

There was an earlier thread on the ShowLow fire and it appears that one isn't a problem for travelers on I-40. I also looked at the fire map and see no others that should affect our route.

Can we please post any first hand info on wildfires for the rest of the summer?

Each state has a Dept. of Transportation or Highways that does that sort of thing already. Anything on here would be spotty to notify of changes. Wildfires move and conditions change rapidly, I'd rather depend on dedicated services that do this function as a part of their duty.

The Ruidoso Fire is gone; there is still action near Albuquerque but I've heard nothing about impacts to I-40. I'll be up in the Grant/Gallup area next week.

Not suggesting you ignore the government, but the maps often don't show the detail we can give on the forum. I'll post if we run into any smoke.

InciWeb the Incident Information System: Current Incidents

Wildland Fire Information, Wildland Fire News, Wildfire Information

First site is done through NWCG (national wildfire coordinating group) has info on the fires (usually federal fires) including closures etc...

The second in from within the fire community, usually from guys on the ground or in the know. My wife uses both of them when I am out on the line in summer.
On the second one, go to forums, then you can select by area/state and look for fires.
Ps. a new fire just started east of Bakersfield today and is running hard near lake Isabella.
Good luck this summer and have a good trip, if you have any questions just ask.

I am familiar with inciweb. The wildlandfire.com website looks like a great resource.
