I am traveling in a 40' motorhome. I would appreciated campground recommendations for Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City. As near the center city as possible. Thanks.

Recommend "Ottawa Municipal Campground ", just off HWY 417 - North on March Rd, and first right on Corkstown Rd. Address is 411 Corkstown Rd, large sites, close to bus parking lot and easy trip to downtown off rush hour. Suggest you look on google earth.

I only stay at Poplar Grove in Greely, a suburb of Ottawa. Out of the campground, turn left and, in 15 minutes or so, you're downtown.

I am looking for the same information. And what I am looking for specifically, is a parking lot near the Parliament Buildings where I can stash my rig for a couple days, while I enjoy the primary attractions.

Ottawa Municipal c/g is closer to downtown than Poplar grove, and is just off the 417, which is a multi-lane divided highway, not a 2 lane secondary highway.

The only thing closer is Rideau heights c/g which is at the end of the Ottawa Airports runway.

You mentioned "stashing" your RV downtown near Parliament Hill, were you wanting to stay in it or just park it?

There are some surface parking lots uptown, and they may accommodate oversized vehicles, especially on a weekend, but I don't know if you could sleep there legally, perhaps you could if you were low key campers. Worthwhile calling around to some of the lots to see if they will accept a rig of your size. I would not mention you intend to sleep in it. I have found it is much easier.to seek forgiveness than to get approval and the attendants are likely not there all night or may not notice or care about your coming and going. These guys are not rocket scientists and are really not well paid so one never knows what a decent "tip" in advance might to get you vs a spot in a surface lot where how many times you vist the RV and how long you stay in it could go "unnoticed".

My recomendation is the Municipal CG noted above. Nothing fancy but the lots are big. But for bus transport downtown from the muni, you need to drive to a park and ride location which is not far. I have seen RV's in the park and ride on many occasions. If you have a toad, parking is available in many locations downtown and at museums etc. A taxi + walking is also another option. Staff in the muni campground or any other campground would be able to provide options. Lots of car rental outlets, including enterprise, who will deliver a car to you.

There are several Walmarts around also that have accessible public transport to downtown and you can overnight park in some of them.

Thanks for the info. We don't haul a toad, and would also want to overnight in the rig.

I seem to recall a couple of large parking lots a couple blocks south the the Parliament Buildings; and some sort of stadium or market place just a bit east of the main drag.

And thanks to others who have mentioned the Ottawa Municipal. I will check that out as well; but it sure is a long way from where we would like to go.

Suggest you visit this and other OTTAWA.CA sites for parking info. Free parking at some lots and on the street in specified areas on the weekend.

Contact info is provided on those sites. You could stay in a campground and night and take you RV downtown if oversized vehicle parking is OK but the early bird gets the worm so to speak.

Libero, now that you mention downtown parking my recollection is that it is bad enough with a car, let alone a motorhome. The thought of parking a motorhome downtown is a really scarey thought.

I think I'll check out bus routes!
