Canada HWY 1
We are planing a trip to Alaska and have the Milepost guide. If I'm reading it correctly Hwy 1 from Hope to Cache Creek looks like a narrow, winding road? doesn't sound like a fun drive. Should I take hwy 5 north to Kamloops and hooking up with hwy 1 at that . This looks less stressful? Ultimately we want to get to Dawson Creek and on to Alaska.

Hope to Cache Creek is a great drive! Much more scenic than the Coke. Also if you take the Coke, there are some long hard pulls, starting at the Great Bear snow shed (the Smasher, as local truckers call it) Stop in at Hells Gate and take the tram down to the river, lots of history about the gold rush, etc.
Happy Glamping.
ps. you will miss Kamloops, but won't be too far from The Center of The Universe! Google Center of Universe, Kamloops for fun.

Hwy-1 between Hope and Cache Creeks is a great drive, a route I greatly prefer over Hwy-5, the Coquihalla.
Yes, Hwy-1 is mostly 2 lane, has a lower speed limit and it is twistier but none of the issues is significant and these down-side are more than made up for with its superior scenery.

Lots of 160,000 pound trucking units travel that road every day. Not a problem with your little motorhome! Lots of passing lanes if you want to take it easy. Enjoy the drive.
Happy Glamping.
