Canada. Maple leaf

We are planning on traveling across Canada from Chicago to the west coast. Was wondering if anyone has traveled this route and has any suggestions for places to overnight or spend a couple days. We plan on a 3 to 4 week trip so any great places to sightsee would be great. Thanks.

We plan on crossing the border in Minnesota which port is optional to us now. Just in the beginning stages of out planning. Looks like late May early June trip. Thanks.
