Kamloops is a fair way distant from the Rockies. I wouldn't let events there affect traveling to the latter. It is going to be (already is) a bad fire season this year so you probably should check often about local conditions but on the other hand, one good rainfall and conditions can change dramatically for the better. Probably a little like trying to decide if you should go to the mid west during tornado season or the Caribbean during Tropical Storm season. Sometimes nature can muck with our travel plans but where isn't that the case.

Thanks for all the info.. We are going to give it a go. Will keep checking status ahead of us.
But on a lighter note....AC went out on the truck. Go figure!

Some good news for you. We started getting rain here yesterday on the coast. It looks to be clearing up now but for 24 hours we were pretty damp. Hopefully some of that moisture will be making it's way inland along with the cooler temperatures that came with it.

Back from the trip. No visibility issues at all. They had put the fire out at Jasper NP (Maligne Valley) and opened the road the day before we arrived. Looks like we avoided the fire at Glacier also. Going to the Sun Road is shutdown now.
