I plan on spending a week there this month. After making reservations, I heard that it is in a bad part of town. I would like to know if anyone has been there and if so, is there a security issue

Finhawk, We heard the same thing that's why we by-passed the opportunity. I wish that we had at least tried it at least once to rule out rumor.

I just stayed there this past Tuesday. We had no problems, never felt unsecure, never noticed anything to be concerned about. The campground is very nice & clean, grounds & showers. There is a courtesy van that will take you to the casino & back or you can walk. The campground is fenced in but no gate at the entrance. There was not much traffic on the road to the CG, there is another entrance to the casino for the general public. We enjoyed the casino & actually walked away with $6 more than I took in. We ate at the buffet, not bad. I would definatly stay there again if back in the area. I would probably stay there for the next couple of months if they offered a monthly rate that was reasonable(which they may, but I could not get anyone to answer the phone or return my calls).
Make the reservation & have a good time.

I stayed there for 4 days with wife and 2 kids with no problem. We were there just to enjoy St. Louis and found it to be a convienent place to stay. It was also close to the Onan/Cummins repair shop (We had genny problems).

This is the only place we stay when we visit St. Louis. You will enjoy the park and the close access to St. Louis via the Eads bridge. Yes, you are very close to a very bad part of town called East St. Louis, IL but we have never had any kind of a security issue at the park and the casino security patrols frequently. Of course, theft can happen in any park anywhere but I would not have any more reservations about staying at this park than I would at staying at any other non-gated RV park.
We have stayed here at least a dozen times over the years and the only bad part about it is when we have to leave!
Anyone who has passed this park by because of what they heard are missing a great park and a wonderful view.

We have stayed there a number of times going back to 2003. Never a problem with security. Trains do roll by often in case you're a light sleeper. But it has a spectacular view of the Arch and they will send a van to take you to the casino or the train station that takes you right to the stadium for a night of baseball.
Only complaint is that they do not allow kids into the buffet.

We will have to make a point to stop on our very next time up to St. Louis. Thanks for the feedback!

Just realized I had a picture of the campground in 2008 taken from the top of the Gateway Arch - that's how close it is. My rig is the first one on the right. There is another side to the campground for smaller rigs.

The park and casino grounds are likely as safe as anywhere else you might choose for the night. The park is well kept, and shuttle service is available. Going over to the arch is no different than riding any other public transportation.
With all that said, you are in a big city, so stay alert just like you would in any big city.

We stayed there in 2006. Nice place to stay. We stayed on the side with the smaller sites and wished we had paid a little more to stay on the bigger sites. The smaller sites could accommodate a 37' fiver, but just barely.
Park is nice and clean. The rail system is in walking distance. Never felt unsafe but we did pay attention to our surroundings. Would not hesitate to stay there again.
