Catskills-Things to do

Ok, don't know what kind of response I'll get here, but here goes.... My son and I are planning a trip the end of May for his 13th birthday-kind of a right of passage thing. We are NOT going in the RV!! We have planned a 24 hour Bear Grylls survival camp that will meet at Frost Valley YMCA in the middle of the Catskills, but have no plans other than that. We like outdoorsy stuff: hiking, shooting, fishing, etc. I've done the Google search thing, but would like some recommendations from those that have been there. We've never fly fished, but it looks like fun....
Would y'all be so kind as to toss out some ideas and things that you have done. Specific recommendations are always welcome.

Have a great trip. I've not camped in the Catskills but hiked and camped in the Adirondack Wilderness near Lake Placid, way north. My sister and family live near Newburgh, NY a bit south of your adventure. There are many beautiful state parks in that area of NY to camp and hike, we've visited a few over the years. If interested, outside Newburgh is Orange County Choppers, of Discovery Channel fame for motorcycle building. Just downriver from Newburgh is West Point Academy. A train ride in to NYC is also something I've done from Newburgh, it's a daily commute for many area residents.

You'll have to check on fly fishing, they have specific seasons and licenses available and not real forgiving if caught without license or with fish out of season.

I grew up hunting and fishing in NY. We used to frequent a place called Lido's Game (or wildlife) Preserve. Haven't been there in a long time, but it used to be excellent. Many great memories.
If nothing else, give them a call and they might be able to help you find something.
In Columbia County right off the Taconic parkway.

Hyde Park: FDR Presidential library and birth place home; CIA (Culinary Institute of America--great tours and good eats too!). Cooperstown--Baseball Hall of Fame. As another said West point is impressive.

Check out Hunter Mountain resort, too.
They have great adventure activities. Zip lines, 4x4 tours, etc.
