I suggest American Heritage RV park in Williamsburg, VA. It is a
very nice CG, maybe 1/2 hour+ to Richmond depending on what
part of Richmond.

American Heritage in Williamsburg is nice but will take you 45" to one hour to drive to Richmond.... depending on where/who you will visit. The former Americamps (now KOA) in Ashland will put you closer to Richmond and very near I-95/295 which will give you a good connection to most anywhere you need to go in the Richmond area (Richmond, Henrico, Hanover).

I would also suggest Pocahontas State Park, our favorite state park in Virginia. However, no sewer hook ups and the water is probably off although there is a water fill station across from the dump station.

We finally stayed at the Americamps-on the way down to Cape Hatteras and on the way back. Highly recommended. Four days in Richmond. Very good time. Left a day early to get home to Long Island before the snowstorm. Winterized just in time! Will stay there again.

Americamps RV outside of Richmond, VA is a very nice park for a stop over. Very easy access from 95 and easy access to TA plaza to fuel up. We stayed on the way to and from Disney. Very friendly staff. Craft brewery next door was a great perk. On Saturday an awesome Santa and his sleigh pulled into the campground. It was quite a treat!

Another vote for Americamp. We will be stopping there on our way home from FL to NH this year. Last trip we stayed there for 4 days until we could get good weather for the remainder of our trip home. The folks there were extremely friendly and the park was well kept. I am a campground owner myself so I can really spot a well run park. They have my vote and I look forward to my visit this winter.

I am preety sure that the campground is closed until spring. It is a very nice park when it is open. North of Richmond there are several RV parks near Doswell and the Kings Dominion Amusement Park area. Check out RV Park Reviews - Trusted Reviews of Campgrounds & RV Parks for the best information. I have used that site to make most of my choices of places to camp, but my favorite overnight campground is Walmart! Phone app Overnight Parking has been "spot on" and I have never had any trouble with the stores that allow overnight camping.

In the past Pocahontas State Park was open year round but the bath houses were closed and the water shut down. I believe that had a fresh water fill near the dump station so you could fill up there.
