But what product did he pay for? The right to stay in a site on certain days (also known as a reservation). The campground provided that in return for his money. If he doesn't take advantage of it, that's not the campground's fault.

In defense of the OP, the no refund policy statement was not on the first page of the link he used when making the reservation, as he stated in post # 28 https://www.paysoncampground.com/

The link he provided, that we are all referencing, is the rate page from that website.
https://www.paysoncampground.com/rates.html

Probably time to put this thread to rest.

As the original poster, I appreciate all responses to my questions. It goes without saying that I will read the terms and conditions before I make my next reservation. Also, I will NOT be staying in a campground that has a reservation policy that says NO REFUNDS.

Back in a previous century I worked in a professional recording studio (before home recording became viable and before digital audio compact disc was something everybody owned). Most of our studio time was bought by jingle producers, voice over projects and the occasional band or songwriters doing demo recordings. The latter were the most likely to cancel. We wanted their business so we had to have a realistic cancellation policy - > 2 months got a full refund; 4 weeks got 75%, 2 weeks was 50%, 48 hours was 25%, applied to a rescheduled day. For 48 hours notice the rate card stated "it is not necessary for your grandmother to die... again. We don't care why, we just need to know you can't be here."

The RV CG market is different, for sure. But if I book 6 months in advance and find out a month later that I can't be there, for example, five months is a lot of time to fill a CG slot that was desirable enough that I had to reserve it 6 months out. If the CG is unable to sell any or all of the days I reserved I should compensate them (liquidate their damages); however it seems unethical for a CG to not add the space back into inventory (so it goes empty) or worse, takes a new reservation for the same space and double-dips.

There is no 'solution' to this, voting with our wallets and wheels is the primary option.

I know RVers that reserve many sites then only go to a couple and cancel the rest, all at the last minute. No refund is the best policy, period.

They should be identified on a list and the list made available to all campgrounds. Absolutely not fair to other travelers.

Do you say anything about it to them?
I'd be calling them all kinds of names to their face.

I work in the B&B / hospitality industry. This person has it exactly right! We turn down many reservations due to the rooms being booked, sometimes a year in advance. Trying to get the rooms filled in a short period of time can be a major loss for the B&B and there's a small margin of income. I would suggest you always ask about the cancellation policy before booking. I don't know about RV parks but there is a company called Travel Guard that will cover some if not all of your loss if you have a last minute cancellation.
