CG within 2-3 hrs or so from Tampa Bay

We live in the Tampa Bay area and are new to RVing. Looking to full time next year, so for the next few months we're looking for RV campgrounds that preferably have 50 amp, wifi, water and sewer hookups, it at all possible. Also important would be outdoorsy things to do such as kayaking, canoeing, horses, zipline, etc., that are either on site or a short walk or drive. Pricewise, we're looking to try and keep it under $50/night, if not better. (Presently we're Good Sam and Passport America members if that helps) As Floridians, we know that Dec.-March will be more difficult to find places. My question really is for recommendations though. We want to get in as many experiences as possible now before we hit the road. So far, we've only done one campground that was comp'd by our dealer, and a nice stay in Oscar Scherer State Park in Osprey, FL. Pretty much have a good idea what to expect at state parks (although I won't turn down recommendations for those either). However, mainly want to hear about decent RV oriented campgrounds that we can head to for weekend trips.

Thanks for any input.

Head down to the Keys, John Pennecamp is excellent in Key Largo.

We like Nature Coast Landings. Lots of outdoors things to do. It's a co-op. So, you have to find someone that wants to rent.

Unfortunately, the upper keys are about 4 hours by car alone. Key West is 8+. Looking to do something close enough to leave for on a Friday evening after work.

Thanks for the suggestion. However, while it looks right up our alley, finding short term stays doesn't look feasible. That said, it's on the right track of what we're looking for.

Rainbow Springs State Park sounds like a good fit. Is in Dunnellon Florida.

This will be very difficult this time of year. I've been on 5 standby lists for a spot you describe since July between Tampa and Ft. Myers, two have phoned recently, both said they will not have any openings until April 2017.
RV parks/resorts in S. Florida seem to all have a similar operating rule. They give reservations to last years guests first. They all told me if I want a reservation after that, I should contact them NLT 8 months prior to peak season, which begins Dec. 1.
In the off-chance they still have openings, contact Larry and Penny Thompson Memorial RV park.(Dade County park) It is a great place to relax, very clean and quiet, yet convenient to everything one would want; although it may be further away than you wish to travel.

River Ranch has everything you want. The only downside is that it is very remote, so bring what you need with you or be prepared to drive nearly an hour to get it.

I'll second River Ranch outside of Lake Wales. We love it. However, it's only 30 minutes - not an hr. - straight up Hwy 60 to Lake Wales if you need to shop.

Check out Camp Venice---- about an hour or so south of Tampa Bay, right off I-75. Full hook ups, canoes for rent, cool restaurant ( Snook Haven) right next door.

Check out Rock Crusher Canyon RV Park in Crystal River. I believe it would be a great match for what you are looking for.
