The workers there were not friendly,. They just didn't look or say hi... The lot was not mowed nor the ashes emptied... If they are understaffed then get some volunteers... They enjoy their work
Total BS. I remember having some issue at check-in last year, and I was a local at the time. (Don't remember the details, other than thinking they were a bunch of idiots).
There's a lot I don't like about that campground. I don't like the fact that they shut the main gate after a certain time, so that if you're not back in time, you're screwed (the exit side has spikes like at a commercial parking garage). Given that the main gate is maybe 5 miles from the campground, you can't just park and walk in. Its an issue because when I'm in the area, I'm visiting friends and don't want to have to worry about when I go back to my camper.
Its definitely not as well-tended as Illinois Beach State Park, which is where I prefer to stay when in the area. The sites at IBSP are much larger - maybe 80' square but with the next row of campers separated from you by 100 yards of forest, and if you get the good ones, your backed up to Lake Michigan.
