The wife and I are going to Charleston, S.C in June for a reunion with my old submarine buddies. Anybody have a suggestion on a good place to stay?

If retired military, NWS Charleston or Charleston AFB. If not, James Island County Park gets good reviews.

There is a KOA in Mt Plesent, SC 20 min to downtown Charleston. They have some nice lake side sites. Hope this helps.

We were just up there for Thanksgiving. James Island County Park is the place to stay. We've been there twice, once in July and once in November and enjoyed the park both times. Easy access to the city and the beaches. And best of all a really great campground with full hook up sites that are not all right on top of each other. I've got a campground map, with links to pictures of some of the sites on my website here.

We too have heard great things about James Island county park, but have never stayed there. The one time we were in the area we stayed at Edisto Beach State park, just south of Charleston, and liked it. Right on the water.

This is another vote for the James Island County Park!

Will definitely camp there in 2011 for sure.

James Island County Park is one of the best municipal RV parks we've seen anywhere. Also, they added free WiFi couple of years ago. For dog lovers, they have a large fenced off leash dog park with a lake.

If you like fresh seafood, wherever you stay in Charleston, go downtown and eat at Hyman's.

Add another vote for James Island. Especially if you have dogs or like bike riding.

Fast attack...USS SandLance...one of the old 637 class...some of the best men I've ever known...can't wait to hook up with them again...can't say I expect the partying to be quite as wild as it once was. No more waking up on a beach with hermit crabs crawling around. hahahahahahahahaha. Man some of the stories submariners could tell.

We just got back from Edisto State Park, very nice, showers a little short on hot water and the dump is about 1 mile from park on the way out. While there we went to James Island Park for the Christmas Light show, we also toured the RV Park and have to agree with others very nice and we plan to work into our schedule at a later date. I think one of the nice features is the trolley to Charleston, beats trying to find parking downtown. We'll also be going to Hunting Island in Beaufort, SC for New Years. We are fortunate in SC to have so many beautiful parks.
