I posted here last week about where to go in Florida and got such wonderful advice that I wanted to try and see if anyone could help with this phase of the trip. Tomorrow we are leaving Savannah, Georgia for Charleston, South Carolina - would like to know if anyone can tell us of a good RV Park (we have good sam and passport america) that is not REAL expensive, close to areas to visit that are tourist areas and advice on things to see in that area. Thanks for any info,
Darlene

Darlene, See if you can get into the James Island County Park. 1st rate accommodations and the park is loaded with features including a water park for the younguns or the young at heart. It even has a lazy river. Dogs are "very" welcome in fact they have their own beach and open romp area.

There will be brochures about all the local attractions in Charleston in the camp store. This place is very well stocked.

Not to be missed, the downtown market, King Street shopping and walking, Rainbow row, Battery Park, Ft. Sumter, Patriot's Point and so many other things. Go to the visitors center and sign up for a mini-bus tour. Take a horse drawn tour of the old downtown area. Buy a Sweet Grass basket! It's all here and it's just waiting for you! Welcome to Charleston!

Hi Darlene,
The only PA CG in the area is Lake Aire RV Park. Their contact number is 843-571-1271. If you call, make sure you get the price per night for a PA member. This is one of those CGs that has more T/Cs than an insurance company has policies. In the same area, but a bit closer to Charleston is Oak Creek Plantation CG. Their contact number is 843-766-5936. It is wooded. Therefore, no satellite. It s also flat. They are a GS CG.

For things to see and do, Patriots Point has the military ships (easily one day) and the Ft. Sumter tour (one day). There are also carriage rides in historic Charleston.

Hi Darlene, we are just a few days ahead of you. Remember us at St Augustine. We are leaving in the morning from Charleston going to Kure Beach, We have stayed at James Island Campground while in Charleston. Beautiful place. Big trees, nice breeze and easy access to downtown Charlestown. Enjoy Charleston

James Island is a wonderful park, centrally located, with large sites.

If you have one sweet tooth in your head, Saffron Cafe & Bakery at 333 East Bay Street is a MUST STOP for the desserts. You can completely ruin your diet and make some life time memories all at the same time. You can do better elsewhere for dinning.

We stayed at James Island for a week last month and wouild probably still be there if they had room for us! It's all been said above but it's a great place. After we had to leave, we moved to Lake Aire. It's ok but certainly nothing to write home about.
