We are heading to Charlotte in November for a football game. I have read through everything I can but doesn't look like there is much camping in the Charlotte area. I looked at Carowinds but no campfires allowed and we will be there in November, really. Any recommendations for that area considering that we will be heading into town for the football game. Go Hawks.

You're right, not much in the area close to the stadium assuming you're going to BofA stadium downtown. Tom Johnson camping world rv park is across from the speedway about 20 - 30 min away but not sure about campfires there either. Best bet may be Ebenezer Park in Rock Hill SC about 30 min from stadium. It's a York County SC park is a very nice lake front park with full hookups. You can reserve on Reserve America.
If the game is at UNCC then Tom Johnson is right around the corner.
If game is at JCSU then same choices as downtown.
Irsses, nearest ACC school is in WinstonSalem about 90 min - 2 hrs away.

Tom Johnson Camping World Raceway CG is your best bet. They do allow fires. Call to determine the rules. I have stayed there many times. Highly recommend it. If you go consider asking for a site away from Bruton Smith Blvd (noise). I try to stay in K aisle, number 30 or above.

We are going to the Seahawks game on Sunday. Looks like we may go ahead and stay someplace around Gatlinburg for a couple days then head to Charlotte Saturday and stay for the game. Thanks for all the comments.

I'd crash at the Fort Mills KOA in SC if it was me.

We use Ebeneezer SP near Fort Mill, SC
Sites w lake view are our preference vs those to the left in the trees.

We like it there too. Headed there for a few days next week [emoji604]. But it’s tough to get in there on weekends, especially during the summer.

Thank you all for your comments. After an exhausted search reading reviews and looking at maps and distances we have decided on Ebenezer Park in Rock Hill. We will post reviews when we get back although it isn't until Thanksgiving weekend. Go Seahawks.

We were at Carowinds over the 4th and some folks had camp fires, but they were in their own portable pits that are off the ground type. No ground type camp fires. You may want to call and double check. It could have been some campers who do their own thing even if not permitted.
