There is also Fieldridge Acres Charlotte, NC. Very close to the Charlotte Douglas International Airport & 8 miles to downtown Charlotte. Not a recommendation, I just know this campground is here. I work at the airport. I do know that the 2 guys that own Cherokee Campground in Blacksburg SC stay here every year for the new years weekend. I figure if the owners of a nice campground would stay here, it can't be too bad.

I have stayed there. It is about half an hour from downtown, but is very nice with pull-through sites. There is a dog park and lots of walking paths.

In Savannah, we like Skidaway island State park. It is big rig friendly, huge pulls thru's and reasonably close to town.
Regarding James island up in Charleston, that is also a very nice park. Also big rig friendly, but be careful on the city roads leading to/from the park. There are/were some pretty low hanging branches.. we didn't hit any, but they sure caught our attention.

Just returned last week from both Charleston and Savannah. I stayed at James Island County Park and Tybee Island while in Savannah. They were both first class. Can't go wrong.

Thanks to this thread, got reservations at Red Gate in October prior to an Entegra Owners Rally at Hilton Head. Thanks!

You might even get to see one of the Deens' when you visit their restaurant. This is Jamie Deen.

Skidaway was very nice but isolated.

Oops, sorry no picture. Promise, we did see Jamie Deen. He was very gracious and actually joined us for a picture.
